Technics SL-PG480A CD-player

Pressing Eject button you immediately forget that the device Technics SL-PG480A costs $160. We can see the same soft charging device as in more expensive models. Electronic volume control is better designed for coordination of levels with the pre-amp's input and in terms of other sources, because only seven stages with a step of 2 db is provided. But if there is no better variant of control in an amplifier, the built-in one in Technics will be enough for the most of cases.

Inability to repeat a single track successfully compensates for the repeat of any fragment - to mark the beginning and the end of desirable segment by just two button's presses on the remote control is enough. There is Auto Cue function - when it is enabled, at track's selection the player Technics SL-PG480A doesn't start to play it but stops at its beginning in pause mode. This function came to appliances from radio where the delay on the search is invalid. This can be useful at rewriting or at sounding of home video.

The measurements' result of frequency response unevenness exceeded the specified in the passport (±1 db) by 4 times. Surely, like in all other cases, this refers only to one instance, but still pleasant.

The sound of Technics SL-PG480A is rather dry and monotonous. However, the monotony here is better the advantage than disadvantage - there is no music which would be unsettled in this device. But I would not recommend this device for playing serious material. Technics copes with modern dance and pop-music without problems, even gives it some juiciness. The device makes a better impression on the big acoustics than on the shelf (maybe it is strange, but the opposite is true for some devices).

Absence of editing, headphones output and other luxuries had a positive impact on the price, which is the lowest from the presented models. However, all the rest functions are absolutely available from the remote control, including disc loading and network outage (due to the sleep mode).
