Marantz CD5004 CD-player

CD5004 is the most affordable among the players of the company. The digital part is based on the multibit delta/sigma CS4392 DAC manufactured by Cirrus Logic. By modern standards the chip is inexpensive, but it can provide a very decent sound quality. The branded amplification modules HDAM-SA2 are traditionally used in the output cascades - a technology that has proven itself in top-end equipment of this Japanese brand. DV11VF engine from Sanyo is used for reading discs, which is also optimized for audio. In addition usual CDs, the player is able to stand compressed mp3 and WMA files with the display of service information about the record being played (meta-data). Among the interesting features of Marantz CD5004 I should definitely note a purely DJ function of changing the playback speed (Pitch Control) and headphones input with level adjustment - a very useful thing for fans of individual listening.

Speaking about sound, Marantz CD5004, generally, is very similar to the analog source - vital and extremely comfortable. Medium frequencies can be called warm, velvety, but with a small veil surrounding individual instruments. The dynamics is somewhat relaxed. If in mid-bass area kick is reproduced quite accurately, then the sound becomes slow closer to the lower boundary. The resolution level in the upper band frankly pleased except, maybe, one moment - the thinnest elements of the sound atmosphere sometimes do not find places in the dense picture created by this source.
