Wharfedale Diamond 10.1 Bookshelf speakersThe company strictly keeps a wary eye on the fact that this historic (and budget) series will be always on top. This is like a trademark of long and successful development of Wharfedale. And tenth regenerations through these speaker systems confirm the professionalism of their developers. Our tested Diamond 10.1 really leaves only favorable impression. Here are an extensional body with convex side-walls, glossy front panel, metallic milled rims of the drivers and high-quality branded terminals. The front panel not only looks spectacular, but also due to special composite material reduces parasitic vibrations. The tweeter with a fabric dome is placed on a metallic protective grill. Woofer is traditionally equipped with a woven Kevlar diffuser, but the used suspension is already special, which damps resonances of the diffuser and improves the dynamics of sound. The basket for driver is stamped from high density polymer and is maximally open for air motion in order not to create unwanted reflections. A special system of partitions, reinforcing the body, imposed the designers to divide the bass-reflex into two small ones. Like the terminals, the ports of the bass-reflex are on the narrow back wall of the body. The speaker systems of brilliant series of Wharfedale traditionally receive high marks in tests. In light of this, Wharfedale Diamond 10.1 does not open anything new, but only refreshed the memories. Naturalness, plasticity and strictness without dryness, accuracy, warmed by the warm feeling are three main qualities of sound of this shelf pair. The advantages appear while the playing of acoustic recordings. Sound of grand piano, instruments of strings and brass groups are transferred with high accuracy. Both large and chamber forms sound expressively. Speaking about criticism, we'll note a slight coloring in the area of lower middle and the tendency to enlarge the sources of stereo panorama.
