B&W DM602 Bookshelf speakersGenerally speaking, speaker systems with the sizes like in B&W DM602 can't be exactly called shelf and not only because nobody will come to mind to put them on bookshelf for fear that shelf will fall down, but firstly because often it is not easy to distinguish their sound from sound of floor speaker system. Low-frequency resources of such systems are already close to the capabilities of floor speaker systems and the quality of transfer of mid and high frequencies is often higher. The look of rigid, ribbed faceplate of DM602, well harmonizing with yellow Kevlar plaiting of mid-woofer, convinces us that the developers, fighting for clarity of sound image, do not neglect any details, which can directly or indirectly have a negative influence on sound image, including violating the uniformity of sound diffraction interference, excessive high-frequency reflections. I must say that their efforts were not in vein. Apparently, one of the main advantages of the system should be referred to its ability to organize space. Moreover, the image of concert recordings differed by memorable volume, detailing, good transfer of hall effects, conviction of presence effect. We can say about certain features of sound's flavor, but some excess of golden ochre was quite organically balanced by the fullness of cool tones of sound palette. In this regard, it is worth noting that the pair not only perfectly played rock compositions, but also soulfully conveyed classical music. Perhaps, the reason is in a good transparency of image, always fascinating a listener, whose hearing is ready to forgive lots in tonal mismatch of image to source. Let me tell you few words about bass. The feeling of interfering excess of low frequencies (more truly, upper bass) arises when volume level slightly exceeds the comfortable level of listening. Bass at the same time blurs. In this case we are talking about partial listening to live instrumental classics. Slight accent on bass guitar seems to be appropriate. Apparently, the best addition to mastery of B&W DM602 will be the playing of various modern music, jazz, but in small rooms the system is very good variant for the lovers of classics too. |
