Acoustic Energy 301 monitors are quite compact, but the thickness of walls at the same time is 18 mm. Like most of speaker systems of such price category they are made by two-way scheme. The branded 110-mm woofer has a lightweight diffuser, made of anodized aluminum. Such head is installed in the famous AE1 monitors - top-ranked references in the world of audio. The head is loaded on the front slit-type bass-reflex, which allowed to extend the frequency response down up to a very respectful 48 Hz. In addition, in contrast to usual round port, such solution gives less turbulent side tones at high volume and has better pulse showings. The upper range is given to self-engineered tweeter with 28-mm fabric membrane. Its features are powerful magnetic system and the ability to work up to 32 kHz.

Acoustic Energy 301 surprised by energy capabilities and well-developed macro-dynamics from the first minutes. In addition, there is quite neutral aurally tonal balance and as a consequence the lack of noticeable color in midrange. However, during long listening, the lightest lift at the very top frequencies, slightly emphasizing voice sibilants. Bass case conquered by accuracy in main band and structural correctness, without slightest hint on a delay in the attack. The sound stage is impressive, with easily readable distant plans and great localization.
