Speaker pair Klipsch VF-35

Budget line Icon V produced since 2008. It has everything to build a home theater: two front speakers, two rear (one dipole), a center channel and a powered subwoofer. The series is intended for a wide audience of music lovers and film who can not spend money on an elite speakers, powerful AV-receiver or amplifier.

Floor VF-35 in this hierarchy are the second from the top. Thanks to the narrow and deep body, they can be easily integrated into the established interior of the living room, and they can move up close to the back wall as reflex port prudently withdrawn forward.

Two-way system, in spite of impressive dimensions. It also branded concept - the struggle for the sound quality by reducing the "extra" points in this section, which are always present phase and frequency distortion. The only crossover with a center frequency of 1900 Hz is optimally matched to the emitters due to careful selection of elements. For this reason, two-wire connection to the amplifier is not provided.

In the low-frequency link has three 13-cm drivers in parallel. Their cones are made of composite fibers, characterized by a low specific weight and high rigidity.

Inch aluminum dome tweeter mounted in the neck of the tetrahedral speaker XT Tractrix, whose design was patented by Klipsch. It is an absolutely symmetrical horn with a side of 11.4 cm, which provides a uniform dispersion in both planes. Upper removable grill and the lower closing midbass drivers fastened tightly.

The body is made of high quality MDF and to increase rigidity is equipped with internal spacers. Stability is guaranteed with a narrow profile plastic "legs" protruding slightly beyond the edges of the speakers.

Say what you like, and the horn is the horn. VF-35 sound like something immediately captivating warmth and soft velvety character. And the treble with enough range tweeter wide, moderately detailed and transparent. Cymbals really "sparkle silver", but the rigidity typical of metal domes, is not felt.

But the most interesting feature of these columns - the ability to deploy large-scale scene, even if they can not be set in accordance with generally accepted guidelines.

No matter how many instruments in an orchestra, each of them will take its place as the front line, and the remote plans. Some simplification, of course, is there, but only on the flanks, which is forgivable for acoustics such prices.

And that's what VF-35 can compete with the more high-end models, so it is tonal in the middle and upper bands. Whether it's symphonic music or modern electronic genres with a rich variety of "mess" you will not hear. And I would like to mention a total fusion, coherence of sound, which always have been credited with shelving monitors, talking about their superiority over the outdoor acoustics. And we, by the way, listen-meter tower with four drivers in each.

But still divide the entire audio range in two parts, starting with a deep bass without a gap was not so easy. String and wind sometimes sound a bit dry, perhaps because of the weak overtones. This is especially felt on the test phonograms, where instruments are recorded separately and not as part of the orchestra. In the concert hall, this effect is manifested in the form of a slightly rarefied atmosphere, reducing the time of natural reverb.

Deep bass I mentioned is not by chance - despite the relatively small caliber of the drivers in the sound of VF-35 present the lowest scores. At least, organ works really pleased the right balance between all registers. Attack impact of the bass drum, bass string vibrations transmitted accurately and quickly, with a full plume reverberation.

It seems that the horn design early to write off. In the current implementation it is relieved of many of the drawbacks previously considered to be incurable and advantages evident even at very modest cost.
