Wharfedale PowerCube 10+ SubwooferQuite a compact subwoofer PowerCube 10+ has a proprietary 10-inch driver with a powerful magnetic system, which already traditionally for Wharfedale works to floor. This principle has long been applied by many manufacturers and has an undoubted advantage - a more even distribution of low-frequency energy over the floor space. However, this creates some dependence on the floor coating, but not in all cases it significantly affects the sound. Acoustic design is a rear bass-reflex. Switching capabilities allow all types of connection; also there is an automatic activation mode for the input signal. As in other models of this brand, there is a built-in crossover with fixed cutoff values - from 35 to 85 Hz at a pitch of 10 Hz. On the one hand, the discrete controller somewhat simplifies the installation of the sub, but on the other hand, it somewhat limits the freedom in the painstaking setting up of a multi-channel system. The first thing which this sub should be commended for is the impetuous, sometimes simply frightening explosive dynamics. To be honest, for me this behavior of usually rhythmical in its sound representatives of the "English sound" was a revelation. This type of reproduction undoubtedly contributes to the high degree of integration of the subwoofer into any system. But you should carefully increase the volume level - closer to its limit there may be distortion caused by the diffuser's output from the linear mode. The selection of the cut-off frequency and the location of the sub in the room also had to be pretty tricky, but the result more than justified these troubles. The sound has excellent attack and speed, especially at comfortable volume levels. In the movie, the character of the bass is slightly monotonous and sometimes suffers from some boominess. The low-frequency register is not too deep, but for most bass systems it will be enough. There are no extraneous overtones, bass lines are clearly visible even in the most complex material. |
