B&W ASW500 Subwoofer

B&W systems often surprises in the form of non-standard technical solutions. And here is ASW500, the sub, which has no bandwidth control. Instead of it the developers offer to smoothly remove excess deep bass from the signal for the main stereo pair with a help of first order filter. Corrected signal is given on both linear and high-amplitude outputs. There is a useful addition - Link Out output designed for serial connection of several subs through linear path. Also you can connect one woofer through powerful terminals and use "tulips" for others. The resonator's port at the bottom of the body has the branded "low-noise" profile, the speaker's membrane is light as a feather.

We have found an amazing thing upon closer acquaintance with B&W ASW500. It should seem, the lack of possibility to adjust bandwidth should complicate the coordination of the sub with different types of speaker systems. In our case nothing like that happened. Say more: by speed of reaching of the desired result and coherence of the work with both big floor and small shelf speaker systems the British sub deserves "Plug&Play" characteristic. Powerful bass with amazing bar fuels the talents of floor speaker systems and transfigures sound picture, being created by shelf speaker systems; and in the last case there is no typical feeling of strain, which is usually forgiven due to its seeming inevitability. Even without using the built-in equalization work of the system seems to be perfect. At the same time the sub is able to make the viewer feel even ultra-low "seismic" wave. Shooting is juicy, maybe fast quick squirts are "blurred" a little bit. We really liked the work of the system in music 2.1 system - adequate low-frequency support in both any classic compositions and hard rock is provided. This is a superb variant of active sub for small and medium-sized rooms.
