Boston Acoustics PV-400 Subwoofer

PowerVent series from the American company Boston Acoustics consists of several subwoofers; PV-400 is the most inexpensive, but by no means the smallest. The high and narrow body made of MDF contains a 65-watt amplifier and a 7-inch driver. Functional equipment is not too rich, but there is everything you need: linear and high-amplitude inputs, controls of band, gain and phase inverter, labeled with Polarity. There is an automatic turn-on mode when the input signal is on as well as turn-off when there is no signal for 15 minutes. BassTrac - an analog of the often used servo control system over the driver - is a special network of feedbacks in the power amplifier.

Listening. At first, there were few emotions: at low volume the "low-end" contribution is not too noticeable. But with the rotation of the gain knob, more and more elastic and appetizing low-frequency mass appears from the depths of the PV-400, the theatrical atmosphere effectively thickens, the sound matter becomes denser. Bass differs by good intelligibility and good response to changes in the signal. Of course, there is a limit, to which the sub keeps the listed advantages; at the maximum volume as if a "cardboard" shade arises in bass.

The compact, elegant Boston Acoustics PV-400 prefers to work at medium and even high volume levels, has a very deep, legible, spectacular theatrical bass. It is well combined with both floor and shelf loudspeakers. While adjusting the system, you should find the optimal position for the subwoofer.
