Tannoy TS12 Subwoofer

The famous Scottish company "Tannoy" has only one line of subwoofers in its arsenal. All three models with TS index have the "closed box" design and lower location of the dynamic head. They differ by the caliber of heads, power of the amp and are designed to sound rooms of various sizes. The eldest of them, TS12, is equipped with 12-inch driver with composite membrane on the suspension of special form and with built-in digital amp with the peak power of 500W.

This sub per default works in automatic mode, switching to standby mode after no input signal during 12 minutes. Only linear inputs are provided from the connectors for external connections, but RCA are duplicated by the professional balanced XLR. They will be useful for integration of the sub into high-class system with balanced interfaces.

As for sound, TS12 showed extremely accurate and very informative sound at all test phonograms and in full operating band. The definition of "Studio quality" without any reservations is fully applicable to it. At proper setting the sound of this small sub is incredibly fast and due to the ability to take a crack it left far behind all the competitors.

Dynamical possibilities of the sub fully corresponds its sizes and sometimes even exceed them. Generally, the sound in Tannoy is playful and catchy, but at the same time accurate and organized. You can feel the limits of dynamics only in the most extreme levels, rarely found in real life. The body's side-tones at comfort volume are also absent.

The theatrical potential of this bass-machine is, surely, not so outstanding, but the cinema lovers, preferring accuracy and delicacy instead of uncontrollable, ultra-high sound pressure, will undoubtedly like its manners. There is the perfect order with sound recording of action movies, but you should not expect from TS12 the things, which it can't do by definition. Moreover, you can always find a suitable variant under other requirements.
