Pioneer S-51W SubwooferThe history of the company "Pioneer" as "acoustic" brand accounts to almost 80 years and now in its lineup it has about a dozen of different subwoofers for home use. Among them S-51W is positioned as inexpensive, compact subwoofer for small rooms. The subwoofer is qualitatively covered with black vinyl film and is installed on elegant silver legs. 20cm LF-driver of private development is located on the bottom face of almost cubic body and is swung by built-in 150W amplifier. A bass reflex port of average diameter also operates in floor. For the signal there is one RCA input, any outputs are not provided. There is no usual regulator of frequency cut. The subwoofer operates in a very wide band (26-900 Hz) and is calculated on a bunch with firmed AV-receiver which has all necessary adjustments. From service functions there are regulation of phase (modes: 0 and 180 deg.) and automatic turn on at the input signal. After several trial tests we chose a frequency cut of 80 Hz. An impressive for such body's sizes dynamics and sharp, not protracted attack transfer are worth attributing to the evident advantages of S-51W. Bass is deep and even quite tangible, but at scaled and rich with infra-low components phonograms the subwoofer folds sometimes. Audio resolution can be estimated as average, there are light signs of monotony in the sound. |
