Technics SU-V620 AmplifierEquipment by Technics has a merited authority and popularity over lovers of Japanese audio techniques. And really, the design and the exactitude of external view of elder model 620 in SU-V series of Hi-Fi amplifiers by Technics gave the most pleasant performance on us. As everybody knows output cascades of power amplifiers of this series are made on double-pole transistors and work in newclassA mode, when in cooler firm's amplifiers of SU-A... series in output cascades a hybrid turning on of double-pole and field MOS-FET transistors, working in newclssAA mode, is used. Functional possibilities of the amplifier SU-V620 are almost "ceiling" for modern integrated amplifiers. Generally speaking, it doesn't have only a switcher of MM/MC magnet head type in correcting amplifier for connection of vinyl player. For the rest it is equipped to a high standard in relation to service. Make your own opinion: there are 6 audio inputs, the possibility for connection of two tape recorders at once, the remote control and system bus output. Above all there are disconnectable tone regulations, the channel for headphones connection, and also a possibility to connect two pairs of speaker systems, a choice of which is realized by pressbutton switch, doesn't exclude. In addition the amplifier has standby mode, in which it goes into when power on and by corresponding command from the remote control. But this is not all yet! A small fan is installed on the back panel. It is intended for airflow of the radiators in output transistors through the control signal of the amplifier's warm protection scheme. The construction of spring terminals for connection of speaker system earns praise too. In SU-V620 these terminals are installed on plastic platforms with impressed grooves in them for laying an acoustic cable. The construction seems to be simple, but a chance of stripped ends closing is significantly reduced. We will mention an adjustable power, being connected with a help of jack plug, as one more feature of SU-V620. At working with floor speaker systems with deenergized tones the amplifier sounded loudly but rather weighty and earthly. Tone balance didn't cause special claims - both low and high frequencies were in assortment. However, the sounding of high and middle frequencies distinguished by excessive sharpness. Moreover high frequencies were even "spiny" sometimes and there was a bit more "metal" than wanted in the sound. Speaking about low frequencies, we didn't have special claims to them - SU-V620 plays bass quite well. But generally the sound of this amplifier is noticeably needed in brightness and voluminosity. Turning on tones, in opposition to our expectations, didn't make the amplifier's sound better. On the contrary the sound became sharper and a bit aggressive sometimes. However, the sounding magically transformed while working from PHONO input. Vinyl recordings sounded almost perfectly, the sound noticeably softened and distinguished by good detailing. Lo and behold! "Air" appeared in the sound and it showed the possibility to play partially volume and the atmosphere of record studio. Here is such a paradoxical Technics. A big meaning of its output power, was being confirmed by our tests, should be mentioned as one more feature. Such a big power reserve can turn out to be very useful for working with speaker systems of low sensitivity or at the need to sound big areas. The fan for airflow of the radiators will be useful exactly for this purpose, because at the amplifier's work at full capacity it has to take external warmth off from output transistors radiators. By the way, this fan works almost noiselessly but blows first-rate. |
