B&W ASW608 Subwoofer

ASW608 is the most compact among the models of the 600 series. Of almost cubic form body looks attractive. The device has the closed loading and designed for the rooms of medium sizes. The head is of own design, with 200mm diffusor made of cellulose, Kevlar fibers and specially developed polymer. The complex of the features of these materials provides a piston mode with minimal distortion.

The built-in amplifier is pulse, of D class with power of 200 W. It is felt that the developers seriously come to damping of the body - it is perfectly muted and leaves the feeling of monolith. Both linear and high-level inputs are provided for the connection to the signal source. In addition to standard controls of cutoff frequency, level and phase there is the EQ correction on two positions and Bass Extension scheme of bass rise with base frequencies of 23, 28 and 36 Hz. Also there is an automatic turn on at signal injection to any of the inputs.

Distinctive features of ASW608 while playing musical recordings are high naturalness of timbres and decent speed showings, typical for the closed design. But sometimes there is lack of absolute dynamics - if the available capacity is enough for most of the genres, the compression is noticeable on particularly energetic compositions. This can be avoided if you choose satellites with the maximally "fast" mid-bass and narrow an operating range of the sub. The same settings will be also appropriate in the system of home video. By the way, the frequency correction is most effective exactly at playing of soundtracks.
