MJ Acoustics Pro 50 MkII SubwooferThe small British company MJ Acoustics can be considered to be an authority in the field of subwoofers, because they constitute a large part of its range. Pro 50 MkII is an improved version of Pro 50, a recognized market leader among compact models. In a closed cubic case with a height of 28 cm there are a 10-inch driver with a dual magnet and a powerful metal basket. It is powered by a 120-watt AB-class amplifier with an Intelligent Speaker Protection overload protection circuit. Here are two built-in crossovers, one for each input: linear RCA or high-level on the professional Speakon connector. The cutoff frequency is adjustable from 20 to 120 Hz, which is enough to integrate the subwoofer into any system. Phase can be changed smoothly - a very useful feature when setting up a subwoofer in difficult conditions. The solidity of the body deserves a separate praise - we rarely meet a relatively inexpensive subwoofer assembled from almost 20-millimeter MDF-plates. With its outstanding musical data the small MJ Acoustics Pro 50 MkII immediately left almost all competitors behind. We have to admit that there are practically no serious flaws in this subwoofer. Against the background of a magnificent sound with a stunning resolution and natural bass lines, you can only complain about some lack of pressure near the lower limit. However, in small rooms for which the model is designed, these purely physical limitations are unlikely to be noticeable. In general, for the dynamics and the complete absence of resonances, you can only applaud the engineers of MJ Acoustics. ![]() |
