Magnat Quantum 553 Bookshelf speakers

The German monitors stand out from the competitors by dimensions and big weight. The bodies are of trapezoidal cross-section - with non-parallel side walls, so internal reflections are minimized. The set of drivers is quite traditional for Magnat - 25-mm tweeter with the dome made of artificial silk (teteron) and 6-inch mid-woofer with aluminum diffuser. Acoustic design is back bass-reflex, that's why it is not recommended to place them close to wall. The connection terminals are decent, there is the possibility to use all the advantages of two-wire schemes.

Magnat Quantum 553 loudspeakers have an adult bass with good depth and touch. The sound is transparent and quite natural, with careful elaboration of details in the whole range and truly excellent resolution. The upper range is very clear and airy, although sometimes it may seem to be slightly intrusive, but this can be considered as a serious disadvantage. It should be noted that there is a full order in this part of the spectrum. Body's resonances are not heard at any volume levels. We can a little way criticize the systems for laid-back and cold sound in the midrange. However, this feature is in some degree smoothed over by longer warm-up of the loudspeakers. The stage for monitors of this price is built just flawlessly. The images do not overlap each other, have correct sizes and accurate positions. Distant plans are expressed not ideally of course, but the depth of sound space is still felt well.
