Magnat Quantum 703 Bookshelf speakersA shelf model Quantum 703 belongs to the top series, so it is logical to expect the corresponding sound from it too. The latest technical solutions and selected components are used here, as befits extra-class acoustics. Drivers are firstly worth noting. This is an excellent soft dome tweeter with an extended frequency range, a powerful magnetic system and special measures for correcting early reflections (for this, a special absorber is installed on the flange of the tweeter). A mid-woofer with a diameter of 165 mm is no less interesting. Its diffuser is made of an ultralight aluminum alloy with antiresonant ceramic spatter, which also adds extra rigidity to the membrane. The acoustic design is a rear bass reflex, the port of which is designed with regard for minimization of noise from the outgoing air flows (Airflex technology). The possibility of a two-wire connection to the amplifier is provided, for which the manufacturer equipped each loudspeaker with a pair of gold-plated screw terminals. The case with non-parallel side walls is perfectly damped. Frankly, I did not expect any special surprises from the speakers with the Magnat logo. All products of this brand to greater or lesser degree comply with the sound concept adopted by the company and have a well-recognized corporate sound. And this time, the reproduction of various musical recordings deserves the highest praise. Having the widest (for its size) dynamic and frequency range, Magnat Quantum 703 behaves carefully to timbres, extremely accurately and naturally playing out test fragments that are very difficult even for more expensive systems. Amazing high frequencies without even a hint of any sharpness or lack of detailing are organically supported by a confident clean middle and high-quality elastic bass. Its depth is such that for a while (and maybe forever), you can completely turn down the use of a subwoofer. At volume increase, the lower part of the range performed by Magnat slightly loses its strength. The sound stage in this case is small in scale, but quite homogeneous, distant plans are read confidently. |
