Quad 12L2 Bookshelf speakersThe legendary English brand Quad is known to all lovers of Hi-Fi. Since 1936 the production of this company is the symbol of the highest quality of playing and the dream of many music lovers. Shelf speaker systems 12LA, referring to L2 Performance series, are positioned by the manufacturer as universal, with traditional layout and design. This is the older model in the line, which has the systems to create any system, both stereo and multichannel. The speaker systems look modest externally, but the build quality and finish is simply superb. The systems are two-way and have a double bass-reflex port, which is placed on the back wall. The drivers are an inch dome tweeter with soft membrane and a 165mm lf head with Kevlar cone and cast basket. The crossover is made of audiophile-level components and divides operating bands at the frequency of 2200 Hz. Thus, the tweeter emits in quite wide band that is possible only with its exceptional quality. Terminal block on the back wall has two pairs of screw terminals, allowing connection of the monitors to the amplifier through two-wire schemes. The sound of these speaker systems is clean and crystal clear. Unbelievable openness and naturalness of playing are peculiar to them and in some aspects the accuracy of transfer is comparable with studio monitors. Firstly the question here is about high frequencies, where you can note just a reference detailing. The middle keeps up too. Vocal fragments, the presentation of which reminds live performance, leave a particularly strong impression. Accurate docking of the drivers approaches the sound of this two-way construction to a point source. Tonal balance is not ideal, but really close to such. Dynamical possibilities of 12L2 are quite enough for adequate transfer of the most musical genres, however, the most extensive classical compositions baffle the examinees, causing audible limits of signal peaks. The relief of bass instruments is recognizable and quite true, but sometimes the attack is too tedious that is not good for particularly energetic rock music. Less expressive compositions do not focus on this feature at all, allowing you to fully dip into the magic of masterly performance. The depth of low-frequency register is average, however, nobody expected the development of infrasonic frequencies from the systems. Quad copes with spatial effects easily and relaxed. Coordinated work of the dynamic heads allows you to form a uniform sound canvas, far from going beyond the perimeter of the speakers' installation. Localization at the same time happens confidently, distant plans are well read. |
