Spendor S3/5R2 Bookshelf speakersSpendor S3/5R2 speaker systems can be consider to be heritors of the famous BBC Monitor, but with a certain amendment to today technologies. The monitors differ from the most of the competitors by closed acoustic design, the advantages of which are obvious. Two-way scheme with unusually high dividing point (5000 Hz) is used in them. The lower part of reproduced range is given to the branded 14-cm driver with phase-equalizing header in the center of diffuser. In addition to 22-mm dome made of the very lightweight fabric, the tweeter has licquid cooling of sound coil - an effective method of excessive heat transfer. Circuit technique of the crossover is maximally simple and does not bring phase distortions, so there is no need in two-wire connection to an amplifier. Despite of the lack of deep bass, you don't feel obvious distortion of tonal balance. Spendor S3/5R2 sound maximally open and with minimal coloring, confirming its right to the title of heritors of the famous monitors. The sound is perfectly drawn in the middle and has a proper attack, allowing to precisely display rapid musical events. The upper case is amazingly skilful - in terms of its naturallness the monitors can compete with more expensive competitors. Unfortunately, due to the design, the model bears higher volume not too confidently - there is a noticeable compression. Space is absolutely three-dimensional and greatly differentiated - each instrument is accurately defined in its proper place of panorama. ![]() |
