Quad 12L Classic Bookshelf speakers

Quad 12L Classic monitor speakers can be referred to high-tech. To minimize resonances, the bodies are assembled from two different kinds of wood and, for additional rigidity, are braced inside with a clever system of braces. Approach to acoustic design is non-trivial too. Bass-reflex is in its base, but for efficient damping of turbulent side-tones it was decided to make a couple of small ports instead of one. Dynamical heads, being used in these monitors, also refer to the latest developments of the company. The tweeter with 25-mm/1" fabric dome is enclosed into a small horn. Low-frequency segment is presented by 16,5-cm/6.5" Kevlar driver with increased speed of suspension.

The sound of Quad 12L Classic seems to be absolute solid, without any accents on certain parts of reproducible band. We see the highest level of detailing of middle - in phonograms of highest quality presence effect was almost full. The character of high frequencies is a little contradictory - it is plastic and distinct, but a bit smoothed and not fully opened that, however, doesn't prevent the perception of music at all. The speaker systems have a confident register. Among slight flaws you can find only some kind of prolixity of bass attack. At proper positioning the monitors will please by excellent panorama - sound stage is built in best traditions of Quad brand, with perfect scale and correct positions of imaginary sources.
