NAD 312 AmplifierThis amplifier shows up among the black team owing to the fashionable color "wet asphalt" and the green power button. The amplifier had not disappointed our expectations before the switching: there are two switches on the backboard. The one features the lock for selecting the nominal resistance of the acoustic system. And the other is a long-awaited one which switches the soft constraint mode and tempts to examine the rear panel first. For the first time the company offered this mode in the NAD 3020 model in the early 80s. And, as it turned out, it has used this mode to these latter days. When listening at high volume you can notice the audible distortion reduction. The NAD 312 amplifier features the mechanical switches used for the input selector and has no loudness control. The device has the following special features: the cutoff of the tone controls, the copying from the one tape recorder, the additional (sixth) input for connecting the AV-sources and the extra pair of jacks connected with a bridge cable - the preamplifier output and the remote terminal input which allow connecting any external device such as an equalizer or a processor. There are two explicit disadvantages: no remote control and the capability to connect only one acoustic system. In all fairness it has to be noted that the binding posts for the acoustics are very convenient, and in the instruction allows connecting two acoustic systems, but in this case there are lot of disadvantages: two acoustic systems should have a total resistance of not less than 4 ohms, their volume will be the same in different rooms, they work simultaneously. ![]() |
