Canton Ergo 202 Bookshelf speakersAgainst the competitors Canton Ergo 202 stand out by manufacturing quality. Cases with rounded corners are made of wood. Protective grill is metal, the front panel is covered with black velvet. Monitors look as impressive and respectable as the much more expensive systems in the Ergo series. A tweeter with a dome of 25 mm in the diameter is made of aluminum-magnesium alloy and has its own protective grill too. Aluminum is also used for the production of bass diffusers in Ergo systems. In our model, the installed 180-mm drivers are rather large for monitors. Ergo 202 also has a bass reflex with the port on the rear panel. For reliable installation on shelves, polymer sticky legs are included. But it is better to place these beautiful systems on high-quality racks - for these purposes, the manufacturer recommends using their own Canton LS60 or LS65. Listening. The sound quality of German monitors is impressive. The sound is open and bright. High resolution allows them to easily extract a lot of details from any music program. As for spatial characteristics, they can be considered even perfect. Canton Ergo 202 form before you an accurate and deep stereo picture, and they themselves literally dissolve in it, creating a complete illusion of live sound. However, there is some specificity in the sound of these systems. Tonal balance is far from ideal. The middle dominates, and the musical emphasis is shifted to female voices, electric guitars, and copper. The upper range is a bit harsh, but worked out quite delicately. Actually, bass, which seems to be weakened due to the raised middle, is not so bad. Unlike other monitors, Ergo 202 are able to indicate the lowest bass. There is no sense of poor sound - both the lower registers of organ, and kick drum, and double bass are present in the reproduced program, but they are just not very convincing. The other side of the bass is more upsetting - the upper one. There is a certain lack of dynamics and clarity. The drum section, from which you are expecting a drive, is transmitted somewhat relaxed. Hence the conclusions are: for playing live or acoustic music, these speakers are just perfect. They will cope well with the classic genres too. But for rock, they will go better with such a companion as a well-tuned subwoofer. |
