KEF Coda 7 Bookshelf speakersThe most compact system of popular Coda series by the British company "KEF" keeps all characteristic features of the appearance of this series. Elegant Coda 7 will harmoniously fit into any interior. The front and back panels, made of black plastic, do not leave the impression of massiveness of the body. The location of the bass-reflex output on the front panel reduces the risk of mumbling when placing the speaker systems in modular furniture. Mid-range subwoofer with the diameter of 130 mm and with the diffuser, made of impregnated paper, and the dome tweeter with the diameter of 25 mm are divided by the filter on the frequency of 3.5 kHz. I perceived the sub's diffuser and dome of the tweeter as adhesion to traditions and tribute to healthy conservatism, which consist in the frame of plastic panels, symbolizing a modern technology of mass production. The combination of low frequency cut (42 Hz at minus 6 dB) with high sensitivity (91 dB/W at 1 m) in the speaker system with useful volume of 8 liters is a serious technical achievement. High sensitivity of the system allowed listening Coda 7 together with the tube amp of A class, the output power of which was only 3 W per channel. The listening left quite a pleasant impression. Guitar solo sounded balanced and natural, fragments of jazz compositions were perceived convincingly, although they clearly needed more dynamism. Joint work with a powerful transistor amplifier was more alive, the lack of dynamism at the playing of jazz compositions disappeared, but a certain sharpness of the sound came in sight especially on bursts of volume and at playing classic music. A trial substitution of standard speaker systems of miniature microsystem JVC UX-1000 for KEF Coda 7 propelled the "micro" sound to the absolutely new level. To my mind, the sound quality of Coda 7 quite corresponds to their price category. |
