This relatively small and lightweight receiver distinguishes with a fairly symmetrical front panel. A tuner with FM and WM bands allows you to store up to 30 stations into the receiver's memory. Tuning at the station is possible in manual, automatic and direct frequency setting modes. The RDS data reception system in this receiver is expanded by the EON capability and the display of the program type with streaming line. Sony STR-DE405 has five audio and two video inputs, an output for a TV monitor. The outputs for the loudspeakers of all amplifier's channels are simple - spring clips without fixation. In addition to the traditional tone controls, it is possible to increase the bass level by pressing the button. One of the receiver's features is a large remote control that allows you to fully control other components of Sony. The display in the center of the front panel shows almost all modes of operation of the receiver. The used digital audio processing circuit DSP in the amplifier allows decoding better and more accurate the surround signals in three variants: Dolby, HALL and THEATER, accurately reproducing the atmosphere of cinema hall. Dolby and THEATER allow four modes of operation of the central channel. The level of the center and rear channels is adjustable from -15 to +10 dB with the possibility of setting three fixed values of the signal delay time of the rear channels and six effects options. While testing, the receiver showed quite good sound, but, in some phonograms, high frequencies were unduly stressed. The work of the tuner did not cause any complaints.
