Boston Acoustics CR8 Bookshelf speakers

The main problem, which the developers of Compact Reference series wanted to solve, is to maximally combine the "natural" advantages of small sized loudspeakers with good bass. Heavy, with hard body and metallic protective-decorative grill and at the same time elegant CR-8 of the American Boston Acoustics inspires respect for its appearance and hope for correct and good sound. The listening to these speakers released the expectations and moreover showed a number of qualities that indicate variety, being worthily appreciated by many audiophiles.

Accurate abidance of tonal ratios in quite narrow spectral limits of sound portrait of each instrument and good transparency of the image contribute to favorable impression. However, it is sometimes hard to get rid of the impression that Boston Acoustics CR-8 slightly dries the sound of strings. Due to excellent quality of transfer of MIDs and their good consistency with high frequencies, vocal is played wonderfully. I liked basses for their strictness, being, maybe, a bit excessive for the listener, accustomed to heavy music forms. It's possible that this listener will find the sound pedantic, devoid of liveliness. At high amplitudes the quality of bass significantly decreases. In terms of genre belonging, the priority part for use is, apparently, pop music. However, the loudspeakers will play well classical rock'n'roll, jazz. The sound of Boston Acoustics CR8 should appeal the lovers of chamber classics too.
