KEF R300 Bookshelf speakers

At first glance, many take KEF R300 for a two-way speaker system. All thanks to Uni-Q driver with aluminum diffusers of both drivers, which look like single entity. This is actually two independent from each other drivers, acoustic centers of which are united in one point. Due to this, the system is a point source of sound in quite wide frequency range (according to the description - from 500 Hz). Thus, it becomes possible to significantly improve phase characteristic, at the same time keeping the advantages of multi-band audio playback. Woofer, which like Uni-Q module is borrowed from the flagship Kef Blade, has a heavy movable system in comparison with competitors. Its construction consists of absolutely rigid composite diffuser, mounted on aluminum frame, which is attached to a large sound coil.

The sound of R300 literally fascinate by a holographic sound picture from the first notes. No other system built stage so accurately and focused as R300 did. At the same time the dispersion is so wide that without losing focus you can quite freely move to the sides relatively to the central listening point. The sound of upper frequencies is extremely open, sometimes even airy. No natural decay of high frequencies is observed. It feels like high frequencies are absolutely smooth up to the limit of audibility. The middle is transferred lively, interesting, very precisely and organized. A slight lack of density is felt in the sound of lower middle. In addition, detailing and micro-dynamics are not too high in the woofer's area of responsibility. Tonality of sound is bright and a bit cool. KEF R300 easily, airy and positively plays any genre of music without additional bass support. Dynamical range of this model is significantly large that allows the system to create large musical images, to the envy of most competitors. It should be also noted that bass of this model is not the deepest and it's reasonably to use for picture's fullness a subwoofer with a fairly high crossover frequency.
