Paradigm Ultracube 12 Subwoofer

12-inch head with the diffuser, made of mineralized polypropylene, two-layer sound coil and cast aluminum basket, which has ASV heat-removal system, plays the role of an active element. Passive emitters have an aluminum membrane with the diameter of 250 mm, which is mounted on a specially designed suspension. Due to this, having quite compact sizes of the body, the lower playing border of 19 Hz was achieved. In addition, this model has a powerful amplifier - 650 W nominally and 1500 W in short term mode. The amp works in impulsive Super-Class D mode and has the advanced scheme of overheating and short circuit protection.

Speaking about controls, there are knobs to control volume, width of playback range (40-150 Hz) and smooth change of sound signal phase - quite a standard set. However, the connection to receiver or processor of surround is possible only with a help of the only one linear input that clearly indicates the intent of subwoofer for multi-channel audio complexes.

The playback character of Ultracube 12 can be described as extremely dynamic and powerful. The created sound pressure is stunningly high for the sub of such sizes, so it perfectly sounds the room of medium size (up to 35 sq.m.). The sub very accurately and confidently transfers the rhythmic picture of rich and dynamic compositions. This is a consequence of distinct forming of signal attack and its fronts. The dynamics is also good. The body's side-tones were not also detected. However, more delicate compositions elicited a certain tendency to tonal monotony, which is not well-timed in complex recordings of symphonic music. In this case, some simplification of spectrum was noticed that caused trouble to the identification of instruments in the lower part of playback range.
