Boston Acoustics CR65 Bookshelf speakers

The CR65 is one of the older models in the recently upgraded Compact Reference series. The characteristic technocratic appearance of the system reflects a combination of modern design aesthetics and high manufacturability. The light plastic design of the speakers is well thought out: the front and rear panels are rigidly tied together. All drivers are shielded. Built on a tiny but strong neodymium magnet, the tweeter is equipped with a heatsink to remove excess heat from the magneto-shielding cap of the head when used in extreme loudness mode (the heatsink plate can be seen through the phase inverter port). Peak power of 100 watts for a small head is a serious test. Speakers can be hung on the wall with a screw or hook - a mounting hole is provided for the corresponding device.

In sound, the system demonstrates a strong personality. Her performing style, which evokes a wide range of diverse emotions, can even be called extravagant in a sense. The predominance of highs, which in itself is not uncommon in systems of this category, is here largely perceived as an emotional enrichment of the musical image, and therefore the term "cold color" seems to be an inappropriate description of it, although it is essentially correct. The sound is magnificent, full of details, as if tart. The high frequency details themselves are very distinct and remain clear under all circumstances. The sound of the system summarizes the musical elements of the upper bass, which allows us to speak about the existence of a low-frequency foundation. The well-being of the middles depends on the volume level and on the content of the low-frequency components in the recording. At a comfortable volume, the middle is perceived neatly groomed. At high amplitudes, a kind of synthetic coloring appears in the sound of live instruments; to a lesser extent, loudness affects the quality of vocals, the sound of electronic instruments. On fragments with a high content of low-frequency adrenaline, the middle begins to noticeably lose to high frequencies in purity. The quality of the characteristics of the stage space also depends on the signal level. By all indications, it is the comfortable volume that is optimal for the CR65.

CR65 can be considered as a musical stereo pair with an original performing style that is most adequate for hard musical styles. Note that in a well-dampened room (a room with an abundance of upholstered furniture), the sound of the system will be much softer. A good option for rear theatrical acoustics; great solution for multimedia.
