Luxman DVA-250 DVD-player

Design. Here is an inexpensive DVD-player Luxman DVA-250. Its Achilles heel is the lack of HDMI. This can hardly be justified only by cost - much cheaper models are equipped with such interface. Video-DAC 12 bit works on not the highest height (108 MHz), however six audio DACs are not worse than in competitors - 24 bit/192 kHz. But the design is quite respectable: the aluminum case is made in strict style, so the model will perfectly fit into even the rack with High End technics. There is a full set of gilt analog connectors including SCART, RGB and output of component signal. Thus, the layout can hardly be called rich: special differences from budget models are not noticeable. All the hopes are on the quality of playing. Let's see whether they are proved.

Functions. By the number of supported formats the device is not interior to the competitors (everything is read up to SACD/DVD-A; only DivX and WMA are traditionally forgotten). Sound settings are clearly more than video (it is immediately clear to what the engineers paid more attention). And really the device sounds better than most of the competitors that is not surprising: the company has the long history of production of good CD-players. Multi-channel sound is reproduced not worse too than in other more expensive competitors. The image sweetens by natural color rendering, but draughtsmanship of dynamic scenes can't be called a strong side of the device. The system of interference suppression causes criticism too: it smooths the picture too much. But the level of black is on the top.

Management. Heavy aluminum remote control looks so effective that you want to hang it in the frame on the wall. Perhaps, this will be it's the most rational use, because even people with eagle eye under ideal lightning will search for Play button for a long time. As well as with any other button - all of them are small, absolutely similar, denoted by microscopic inscriptions and are placed in straight rows. The design here completely suppressed ergonomics, so you should buy a universal learning remote control together with the device. However, menu system is not worse than in other models - simple and clear.

Recommendations. In absolute terms the model has received not very high marks. However, you shouldn't forget its price. In the result, we can recommend the device to lovers of stylish qualitative technique, not having a display of last generation. It will also best fit TVs, equipped with only analog inputs. Finally, if you need a good receiver with the possibilities of DVD, you can stop your searches.
